I was keeping my eye on the Hippo stories this week. Strangely there was Hippo running wild in Cape Town and Solly the Hippo in Modimolle stuck in the pool. Sad news that Solly did not make it.

According to eNCA
The 5-year-old hippopotamus, affectionately dubbed Solly, who got stuck in a Limpopo swimming pool, has died during an attempted rescue. Wildlife authorities planned to lift the three-tonne beast out of the Modimolle lodge’s shallow pool, but he died before they could do so. Authorities say Solly got stuck in the pool after he escaped from his herd, which is thought to have bullied him. Lodge manager Ruby Ferreira was distraught after Solly’s death and said, “I can only hope he is in hippo heaven.”
